Pacific Octane Domain Name Monetisation Case Study

Pacific Octane conducted a case study from October 2008 through December 2008. The following was demonstrated in the case study to measure the viability of a monetisation development strategy as opposed to the standard domain name parking strategy which is currently used by approximately 50% or more of the domainer community globally.

Process:

1. Generate a standard website with 6 pages of unique content per page to include the homepage, about us page, resources page, contact us page, news page and a sitemap page and add Google AdSense to it. A total of 5 websites were created.
2. Generate a standard WordPress blog and put a generic welcome message keyword relevant to the domain name and add Google AdSense to it. A total of 5 WordPress blogs were created.
3. Measure the following factors during the initial 30 day period in determining the quality and overall speculative forecast for viability and revenue: Total Spider Crawls (search engine crawls), Total Pages Crawled, Total Visits, Unique Visits, Page Views, Saved To Favourites and revenue generated via AdSense.
4. Performed SEO (search engine optimisation) maintenance on the 5 websites by chaging page structure and content along with other methods during phase 2 of the case study (2nd month) whilst doing nothing to the WordPress blogs.
5. Performed SEO (search engine optimisation) maintenance on the 5 websites by chaging page structure and content along with other methods during phase 3 of the case study (3rd month) whilst doing nothing to the WordPress blogs.

Findings:

1. The WordPress blogs outperformed the SEO websites during all phases of the testing on all variables.
2. The WordPress blogs generated an average of 60% more revenue than the SEO websites.
